Season.El Salvador
might have the world's most consistent surf. Here. you will fid almost year
aroud waves, but if you are planning a once in a lifetime trip, maybe you are
best to make it March to October, when you are almost guaranteed four feet or
better daily with some heariltier swell a few days per week March to June is pretty wave season, the rainy season is just getting underway, and the swells are already consistently. For people in the know, getting into the water as soon as the southern swells start pumping can be magical combination of clean clear water and some very nice surf.
May through September, is consistent wave season. Spend at least a week during these months and if you don`t catch great waves it is you own fault. This is the time the swell is biggest, expect four to six feet almost everyday, with ups and downs fron three to eight, The only drawback in this season is that the weather does impact the waves. Heavy rains will bring brown or off colored water down from eroding mountain streams and disorder in morning sessions, and the point breaks will be rocky, This is also the only time in El Salvador when a freak storm can blow everything out, though never for more than a couple days. November and December is when offshore arrives, This marks the end of surf season, El Salvador style, the waves are usually small, in the three to four foot range, but clean morning and afternoon offshores aren`t uncommon, here you can expect three to four feet daily, this is great time for bring the family or learning to surf. swell can pick up too and rise over five feet, but it's not common January and February are small, sometimes too small, but can also be good for first timers, If you have only got a short time, or if you are serios swell hound and need to be surfing everyday, this is not the time for you to visit El SAlvador, The waves often drop under two feet and it can go flat for a week at a time. That said, in the last few years El Salvador has not had a real flat sweel, and with crystal blue water and few tourist, and pretty sandy beaches this has been the time for epic sessions. We have started our last couple New years with almost nobody out in clean six foot sets all day. The thing about El Salvador surf is that with great southern exposure and even some northern, swell can and does hit any day of the year. But there are definitely certain months where waves are almost guaranteed and others some luck is involved |
